    • Abstract : Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi, pose significant health risks when present in plant-based supplements (PBS), necessitating thorough risk assessment to ensure consumer safety. This study evaluates the health risks associated with mycotoxins, specifically aflatoxins (AFB 1 , AFB 2 ) and ochratoxin A (OTA), in PBS sold in Malaysia. Contamination levels of AFB 1 , AFB 2 , and OTA were quantified in 14 PBS samples using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. All samples tested positive for AFB 2 , while 28.57% and 42.86% tested positive for AFB 1 and OTA, respectively with some levels exceeding the regulatory limits set by the Malaysian Food Act 1983 and European regulations. The estimated daily intake of these mycotoxins was calculated based on the recommended daily intake of each supplement. To assess risk, Margin of Exposure (MOE) values were determined, showing that all AFB 2 -positive samples had MOE values below the critical threshold of 10,000, indicating an urgent need for risk management. A quantitative cancer risk assessment also estimated the percentage of hepatocellular carcinoma and kidney cancer attributable to mycotoxin exposure. The findings emphasize the significant public health risks posed by mycotoxins, particularly in samples B2 and B10, where all three mycotoxins studied were present at concerning levels. This study highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations and better monitoring of mycotoxin levels in PBS to protect consumer’s health.

    2. Enhancing Integrated Pest Management of Coconut Insect Pests Through Biological Control Implementation
    • Creator : Nurindah, Hosang, Meldy L. A., Sunarto, Dwi Adi, Sujak,
    • Content Type : Chapter
    • Publication Name : Science-Based Pest Management for a Sustainable and Resilient Coconut Sector
    • Publication Type : Book | 2025-01-01
    • Abstract : This chapter examines the implementation of biological control strategies within Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for major coconut insect pests, focusing on the Coconut Hispine Beetle (CHB), Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), and Coconut Scale Insect (CSI). It explores various biological control agents, including parasitoids, predators, and entomopathogens, detailing their effectiveness in managing these pests across different coconut-producing regions. The chapter emphasizes the importance of understanding pest bioecology and host-parasitoid interactions Interaction for successful conservation biological control. It also discusses the integration of advanced agricultural technologies and communication tools in IPM, highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing pest control efficiency. The authors address challenges in implementing biological control, such as mass rearing techniques, release strategies, and the need for farmer education and institutional support. Overall, the chapter underscores the critical role of biological control in sustainable coconut pest management, promoting biodiversity conservation and reducing reliance on chemical pesticides.

    • Publication Name : Proceedings of the International Conference on Business, Economics, Social Sciences, and Humanities - Humanities and Social Sciences Track (ICOBEST-HSS 2024)
    • Publication Type : Book | 2024-01-01
    • Abstract : This research aims to describe the pattern of manga title formation in manga . The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data in this study were collected using the observation and note-taking technique. Object of this research is 20 manga titles contained in the weekly manga tabloid shuukan shounen janpu edition No. 16 of 2024. The result of this study is that there are 3 patterns of manga title formation used in “ shuukan shounen janpu”, consisting, 1. Name Based; 2. Curiosity Based; 3. Dialog Based. The most used pattern is the first one with 9 titles. From these results, we can conclude that to attract the reader’s interest, half of the Japanese manga serialized in shuukan shounen janpu use the name based pattern .

    4. Conference proceedings publications in bibliographic databases: a case study of countries in Southeast Asia
    • Creator : Purnell, Philip J.,

    • Abstract : Leading citation databases have made concerted efforts to reflect academic conference contributions in the form of proceedings papers in their databases. We studied global trends and a regional case study to determine the relative representation of conference proceedings in the global scholarly literature using the Web of Science, Scopus, and Dimensions. We designed our case study of ten Southeast Asian countries to uncover conspicuous publishing patterns obscured by global average figures. As a result, we discovered that Indonesia alone has made a recent and remarkable shift towards conference proceedings publishing. This trend was not the result of expanding database coverage but may be linked to a rapid increase in conferences locally hosted in Indonesia. The conclusion suggests that conference proceedings are increasingly indexed by major databases, and that scholars might have found advantage in publishing conference papers that were quicker and easier to publish than journal articles or book chapters. Our study is relevant to policy makers in the area of research evaluation because it highlights potential changes in academic publishing behaviour by those being assessed.

    5. Crystal diversity and macropatterns in leaves of Oleaceae
    • Creator : Lersten, Nels R., Horner, Harry T.,
    • Content Type : Article
    • Publication Name : Plant Systematics and Evolution
    • Publication Type : Journal | 2009-09-01
    • Abstract : Oleaceae leaves surveyed from herbarium specimens of 240 species from 23 genera were rehydrated, bleached, processed into xylol, mounted unstained, and viewed microscopically between crossed polarizers. Occurrence of five crystal types and two variants (tiny acicular crystals and sphaerites) within one family is unusual. Number of crystal types within a single species was one (108 spp.), two (53 spp.), three (51 spp.), four (15 spp.), and five (6 spp.). Seven species lacked crystals. The tiny acicular crystal variant was most common (167 spp.), followed by prisms (67 spp.), raphides (65 spp.), druses (61 spp.), sphaerites variant (50 spp.), styloids (36 spp.), and crystal sand (21 spp.). Epidermal crystals were common (155 spp.), with epidermal crystals clustering at base of trichomes in 21 species. Jasminum was exceptional in having mostly druses and almost no crystals around vascular bundles. Most Oleaceae crystals are tiny, usually about 5 μm in length, except for larger styloids and raphides.

    6. Island Tourism Development in Peninsular Malaysia : Environmental Perspective
    • Creator : Wong, P. P.,
    • Content Type : Chapter
    • Publication Name : Tourism vs Environment: The Case for Coastal Areas
    • Publication Type : Book | 1993-01-01
    • Abstract : Tourism takes various forms on many islands off the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia. Penang has developed into the premier island resort. For many islands, tourist development started largely as an unplanned process. In recent years, resorts have been planned and developed on some islands. The distinctive nature of the islands gives rise to specific tourism-environment relationships which can be critical for small islands. Increasing importance is being placed on planned development and environmental aspects of island tourism development. The tourism of a small island is approximated by a schematic model.
